NIHR Brand Update 2026
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has undertaken a comprehensive brand refresh to mark its 20th anniversary in 2026. The changes will help increase awareness among key audiences and ensure brand consistency across all NIHR schemes and infrastructure, highlighting what the NIHR stands for: life-changing research for the health and wealth of the nation.
The brand evolution includes updates to logos, font, colour palette and graphics. Resources are available to download below.
Key changes for PSRC colleagues
The main change for NIHR schemes and services, such as PSRCs, is a new logo structure and naming convention. The refreshed brand gives greater prominence to each NIHR scheme, introducing a new logo system and reducing the overall number of NIHR logos. This means that:
- Every location and specialism within a scheme will use the same generic logo.
- Location names, such as ‘Greater Manchester’, are no longer included and should not be added to the logo.
The new PSRC logo is shown below. Logos must not be altered, and new versions should not be created.
If you require the new PSRC logo, please contact our Communications Manager, Melissa Lima (melissa.limasilva@manchester.ac.uk), who can provide the approved version and advise on its correct use.
Updated naming guidance
The NIHR has introduced updated naming structures for its schemes and services.
This means we should now use:
- NIHR Patient Safety Research Collaboration: [Location] (first full use)
- NIHR PSRC: [Location] (abbreviated thereafter)
From now on, please adopt this new naming convention for any new documents, materials or presentations being developed. You do not need to change or update existing materials, but please avoid mixing old and new branding or naming conventions within the same document.
Please note that there is currently no requirement to reflect this new naming structure in acknowledgements. For all other materials, we recommend using the updated naming convention outlined above.
The new naming convention structure currently only applies to communications materials at this stage, however, the above structure will be implemented formally when new contracts are commissioned. Therefore, we advise using it in preparation during this transition phase, particularly when creating assets with associated costs.

Fonts
NIHR’s main body font is Inclusive Sans which is freely available on Google Fonts and can be installed locally on any device for use in Microsoft Office and other desktop applications. Arial remains as the alternative system font when Inclusive Sans is unavailable.
